Hardcopy cards and letters, a love/hate relationship! If you’re like me, it’s a constant struggle of what to keep and what to get rid of. I’m talking about the super cute thank you cards, birthday cards, celebration cards or other random notes from friends and family. My husband works as a teacher and I work as a nurse, so we also get thank you’s and other random drawings and cards from our students/patients, and I personally love to keep the really nice ones for the memories.

We used to just throw them all in a bin when we lived in our apartment and had absolutely no organization system whatsoever. Honestly, it always drove me crazy so one day I finally sat down and figured out what to do about it.

Why You Should Have a Greeting Card Organizer

So first, why is this even important?

First, it offers a home for your keepsake cards. This way you can go back and find them easily, ultimately sparking joy and memories again. This also allows future generations to find these keepsakes easier, too.

Second, to track your life milestones. Organization will help you see what you have all accomplished which can be really fun to look back at. I already love looking back at some of the cards from our wedding day and seeing what jokes or advice our loved ones wrote us.

Third is the thoughtfulness of others. When you’re able to look back and see what your grandma, mother, sister, coworker, student etc. made you, it gives you a sense of value and appreciation.

These are the three reasons I store my cards and letters in the first place, which leads me to the next question which is how to know which cards and letters to keep and which to toss.

The 3 Questions I asked myself as I Sorted the Cards

These were the three questions I asked myself as I sorted through my cards and letters that were all scattered in a random bin. They were:

  1. Does this bring me joy?
  2. Will this bring me joy in a year?
  3. Is there meaning to this card/note?

This helped me narrow down a lot of cards that didn’t really have much meaning. After I did this, I brainstormed some different ways to store cards. There were a couple of ideas that popped up in my head such as getting a book to store them all or taking a picture and making a book electronically.

After thinking about it more though, I didn’t want a card book as this would end up taking up too much room and I would run out of pages fast. I also didn’t want to take pictures and make it in to a book to eventually print as this was going to be forever time consuming and really, I just don’t have extra time these days!

The Perfect Greeting Card Organizer

I started searching online and ended up finding the perfect greeting card organizer. I love that it comes with dividers and pre-typed labels. It also has a ton of blank label stickers so that you can add your own categories. FINALLY a system that keeps my cards organized and bonus – the bins are actually pretty nice looking!

I ended up ordering the two pack right away so that my husband and I could share one and my daughter could have the other. I’m so excited that the next time I am trying to find a specific card it won’t take me so long to dig through them all. I plan to go through this box every year or so and ask myself those same three questions as I sort through again. Here’s to another successful organization hack!

What do you think about this organizer? Do you have a different idea or way you store your cards? I would love to hear from you!
