The other day I said to Alex “I think spring might be my new favorite season” and it really got me thinking. I don’t think it’s necessarily my favorite in terms of the weather or things to do, but more so because of the way it makes me (us) feel. If you’re from the midwest, you know the feeling I’m talking about.

That feeling of making it through yet another long, cold winter.

That feeling of being able to open the window and let some fresh air in your house.

That feeling of motivation and new beginnings.

That feeling of more time in the day because it doesn’t get dark out at 4pm

Seriously, it’s the best feeling. To fully embrace the season, here are some ideas I can think of right away that I typically do to “celebrate” winter officially being over:

  • Go for a walk (or two)

Okay I know I do this throughout winter too, but going for a walk every day you can is still a must in spring. The warmer air and sun is so life giving and walks give you the chance to clear your mind and keep your energy up.

  • Find some outdoor friendly activities to do

For example, last week we went to the zoo and let our daughter just explore the yard remembering we can’t always do this in winter because our hands might freeze off!

  • Switch out my wreaths

Obviously switching the seasonal wreaths is such a simple thing to do, but it brings me so much joy! Find a fun, springy wreath! I love this one from Amazon.

  • Get the house ready for open window season!!!

We like to clean all of the window glass and put the screens back on (after vacuuming them) so they’re all clean and good to go for that first beautiful day.

  • Put the winter gear away

This is a great time to go through your winter gear and sort through what you didn’t touch this last winter season. If I didn’t wear those gloves or hat one time, it’s usually a sign I can get rid of it. My daughter outgrows things in three months it seems, so all of her stuff gets stored in a bin in our basement for the next baby.

So there you have it, five simple ways to welcome spring! Hopefully this motivates you to do something similar if you don’t already. I would love to hear some ways you all welcome the spring season!
